"Why Poverty ?" is a cross-media event reaching more than 500 millions viewers via television, radio, internet and live events between the 25th and 30th of November. "Why Poverty" aim to launch a global debate with the diffusion of eight documentaries about poverty. Currently 70 broadcasters have signed up for broadcasting the eight documentaries, then you can find them and 30 short movies with more information on the website www.whypoverty.net and on the Why Poverty YouTube channel.
"Why Poverty?" is a non-commercial event produced by Steps International, a non-profit organisation based in Denmark. Steps International promotes "Why Poverty?" worldwide from September 2012 starting with a launch during the UN General Assembly in New York.
Steps began in 2001 with Steps for the Future, a collection of 38 films about life in Southern Africa in the time of HIV/AIDS.
In 2007 Steps International created Why Democracy? 10 documentaries and 13 shorts movies that won numerous awards.
